Southern Light | Zuiderlicht |
We were
born with the light of the gypsy Worn out clothes and a radiant third eye Now our violins lie somewhere on the backseat It's been ages since we've played them live Southern light, make us whole One step too far, can't match the Maker Southern light, make me whole Southern light... |
licht, maak me compleet. |

Company of Fools | Gezelschap van dwazen |
Last
night I had a dream I saw a fountain rising out of sea while I was swimming on dry land On a bridge a foreigner stood waving at me, saying: ‘come up here girl, show me your hands’ Said, I’m wrestling Then he introduced to me
the masters of the melody when I’m wrestling |

Go stand | Ga staan |
Are
you helpless, childish, sometimes untrue Are you thinking that no one on earth is like you Are you African, Mexican or whatever brew Are you Christian or Muslim or singing the blues Go stand, go stand for what you are Go stand, go stand, stand up for what you are Are you wise, ambitious,
shiny or cool Are you homeless or helpless,
seeing or blind
|
ziener of blind

Wonderful World | Prachtige Wereld |
Wonderful
world How come you’re so blue Pictured from out of space I see you So many mountains So many sea’s So many wars You would if you please Try to comfort you With every step in my life Worlds that are separate People who live Wonder, wonderful world Wonderful world We crucify, deny and delay Wonder,
wonderful world |
wereld |

Note: Nadieh wrote this song specially for the TV programme "De Opdracht". "De Opdracht" means "The Assignment". Her assignment was to make a song that would be an interpretation of the theme Good Friday. The evening that Jesus Christ died. Nadieh herself also died on Good Friday 1996. In the TV programme you can see how Nadieh writes this song at the kitchentable, with her sister Manon and her neighbourgirl Annebelle. |
Note: Nadieh died herself just like Jesus Christ, on Good Friday. The night of April 5th 1996. Nadieh was very religious. In this song I think she sings about the fact that life on earth can be hard, with all the wars going on and how God's love can offer you comfort with every step in your life. |

Green Eyes | Groene Ogen |
Green, green eyes
in the rain all the things I wore and draped like mountains on the floor There’s really not much left besides the pain of looking at these green eyes in the rain Thoughts, a market
place of thoughts And we live our
lives Green , green eyes
in the rain And we live our
lives Green , green eyes
in the rain |
Groene ogen, groene
gedachten door me heen We leven onze levens Groene ogen, groene
ogen in de regen Groene ogen, groene
ogen in de regen |

Note: Nadieh did an impressive, very vulnerable live version of this song live at the CD Awards 1988, after wich she won the award. She was totally surprised, she never expected to win, she said. |
Note: This song is written for Nadieh's best friend in the eighties, Inge. Inge has green eyes. Nadieh also sings about 'green eyes' in the song Wonderful World. Marja, the woman that was Nadieh's biggest spupport after her boyfriend died at age 17 also has green eyes. Marja introduced the Baha'í' faith in Nadieh's life. Nadieh was very religious. |

Turn me Loose | Geef me mijn vrijheid terug |
Crashed with my car Crashed with my brain Turn me loose, turn me loose,
come on let's fly You sneak through the backdoor I'm sick of myself Turn me loose, turn me loose,
come on let's fly Nothing human strange to
me Nothing human strange to
me |
huid Ik word misselijk van mezelf Geef me mijn vrijheid terug,
zullen wij samen alles achterlaten Niets menselijks is mij vreemd Niets menselijks is mij vreemd |

Note: This was Nadieh's first single 'new style'. She started to make rock music, inspired by Gianna Nannini, who Nadieh met in Japan, at the Yamaha World Music Festival. |
Note: Nadieh once literally crashed her car into a lamppost after a desperate, non succesful attempt to win someone's heart. Nadieh has also once said that she had a dream about crashing her car into a brick wall after she realised a relationship wasn't working anymore. |
